In case you were starting to get too comfortable, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff has a gut feeling:
"I believe we are entering a period this summer of increased risk," Chertoff told the Chicago Tribune's editorial board in an unusually blunt and frank assessment of America's terror threat level....
he indicated that his remarks were based on "a gut feeling" formed by past seasonal patterns of terrorist attacks, recent al-Qaeda statements, and intelligence he did not disclose...
"We could easily be attacked," Chertoff added.
Rep Peter King agrees:
"The biggest message is for Americans to realize we have to assume we can be attacked any day," King said.
Thanks for the heads up Mike and Pete! I thought I should be supporting the President and the "Global War on Terror" because they were keeping us safe from the evil doers this week. I suppose I looked at my calendar wrong. It must be "Support the President and the "Global War on Terror" because we aren’t safe from the evil doers week".
So, Mike, just what does that mean for an Average-Middle-America-Joe like myself?
Chertoff noted, "It's important as we go into the summer season, which is typically a time people like to relax, to remind people that this threat is very alive, and the enemy is continuing to try to improve itself and carry out its attacks."
Whoa! Looks like I’ll have to cancel the Bar-B-Q, through out the Braves vs. Mets tickets, forget about drinking Daiquiris by the pool and any notion of relaxing this Summer. Instead we’ll be on the look out for brown people at the supermarket, lest we get complacent while the terrorists are around. I only wish Mike would have warned us that Al-Quaeda was in town before I took the family to the Fireworks last week.
Now the Lie-berals may call this "grasping at straws", but Mike also tells me that if we don’t crack down on those brown people from south of the border, we may lose to the Islamofascists:
Chertoff said, too, that the recent failure of Congress to pass an immigration bill has negative repercussions for homeland security and will lead to continued federal crackdowns on illegal immigrants...
In the end, Chertoff argued, Americans must soon decide between enduring greater inconvenience and costs or allowing terrorists easier access to the borders. He warned against increasing resistence to security measures based on comfort and self-centered motives.
"If you get to complacency then I guarantee you we will lose the race with the terrorists," he said.
So remember, fellow conservatives: Big Government and Taxes are bad, unless Mike and the Gang say we need them to fight the evil doers.
Just out of curiosity, what do those Lie-berals think about Mike’s warning.
But Chertoff's remarks rankled Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, who stressed the need for information over intuition...
"If there's information, we expect it to be shared ...
Frankly, I don't think it is helpful to have the secretary of homeland security telling us what he feels. He should tell us what he knows."
"What color code in the Homeland Security advisory system is associated with a 'gut feeling?'" asked Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss.
"What sectors should be on alert as a result of your 'gut feeling'? What cities should be asking their law enforcement to work double shifts because of your 'gut feeling,'" Thompson asked.
"Are the American people supposed to purchase duct tape and plastic sheeting because of your 'gut feeling?'"
Clearly these Lie-berals shouldn’t be trusted with the security of our nation, which (this week) is so vulnerable to attack!
